Nate and Alex here. When we are not fetching coffee, making copies, cleaning the toilets, or feeding D.J.'s cats we work on a variety of different projects for Eleven Warriors.
As your 2016 11W Summer Marketing Interns we will be providing updates on our projects for the community on a weekly basis each Sunday throughout the summer. Our work will focus largely on product improvement, customer engagement and personal growth. Comments, questions and some damn respect for once are appreciated
For Week Two we began looking into opportunities for student outreach. It was clear from the beginning that student engagement is a big area of opportunity for the interns (since you know, we’re students). Currently, student-age user engagement is one of 11W’s biggest growth opportunities. With all of them living in our backyard we want to focus on growing the student readership. We want to incorporate new strategies and campaigns to elevate awareness for students and engage them in a manner that fits their lifestyle. With over 45,000 undergrad students on just the Columbus campus there are a lot of different avenues we could explore.
There is a myriad of campus events that Eleven Warriors could leverage to engage students. They range from opening week events like Buck-i-Frenzy to sponsored charity events like Buckeyethon an Eleven Warriors Dance Squad would be something to… behold. Some sports-related events could include a rec sports league sponsored by Eleven Warriors or even just a charity basketball/sand volleyball/dodgeball tournament.
Awareness efforts should be focused on two of the places students spend the most time: on campus and online.
-Students notice what other students wear on campus- so getting some stickers, hats, and amazing shirts from the 11W Dry Goods store and putting them on some bodies/laptops would be huge in promoting Eleven Warriors’ brand. We will be holding modeling auditions in the future for those interested in helping us with this part.
-Eleven Warriors is already on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Plus, and Youtube (check us out, kids!). We feel this is a pretty good social media network we have established already. The goal now is to utilize these platforms in a way that promotes sharing and conversation with student users while at the same time not excluding everyone else.
There may also be a few ways to reach students better with different kinds of content and articles from the site. Student-centric articles could create more buzz and reports of events on campus could help grab students’ attention. We already do this in some capacity, but we believe it can be utilized more effectively if promoted and shared correctly. For newcomers, we can provide broken-down articles that allow for quick, casual reading.
We would definitely like to hear from our students users who are on the site already. Drop a comment if you got something to say!
