A total of 788 Ohio State athletes were named Scholar-Athletes for the 2021-22 academic year.
Ohio State honored its 788 Ohio State Scholar-Athletes, all of whom have grade-point averages of at least 3.0 and who represent 37 different Ohio State sports teams, at its Scholar-Athlete Awards on Monday night. The list of Scholar-Athletes includes 52 Ohio State athletes who have 4.0 grade-point averages.
The list of Scholar-Athletes includes 51 Ohio State football players (some of whom played their final seasons for the Buckeyes in the fall), highlighted by a pair of five-time Scholar-Athletes in long snapper Bradley Robinson and linebacker Cade Kacherski. Four-time honorees from the football team include wide receiver Kamryn Babb, linebacker Ryan Batsch, defensive end Tyreke Smith and defensive tackle Taron Vincent, while three-time honorees include quarterback Jagger LaRoe, offensive lineman Harry Miller, linebacker Teradja Mitchell and offensive lineman Ryan Smith.
Other football players who earned Scholar-Athlete honors include wide receivers Jayden Ballard, Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr., offensive linemen Paris Johnson Jr., Donovan Jackson, Nicholas Petit-Frere and Luke Wypler, running back Miyan Williams, punter Jesse Mirco, quarterback Kyle McCord and linebacker Cody Simon, among others. The football team currently holds a cumulative GPA of 2.998 and has had a team GPA over 3.0 for four consecutive semesters.
Twelve members of last year’s Ohio State men’s basketball team were honored as Scholar-Athletes as Justin Ahrens, Malaki Branham, Joey Brunk, Kalen Etzler, Harrison Hookfin, Eugene Brown III, Meechie Johnson, Jimmy Sotos, Justice Sueing, Seth Towns, Jamari Wheeler and Kyle Young were all recognized for having GPAs above 3.0.
Nine members of Ohio State’s women’s basketball team earned Scholar-Athlete honors: Tanaya Beacham, Hevynne Bristow, Madison Greene, Rikki Harris, Gabby Hutcherson, Anyssa Jones, Rebeka Mikulasikova, Jacy Sheldon and Taylor Thierry.
Ohio State women’s hockey was recognized for posting the best team GPA among large sports teams at Ohio State, while women’s gymnastics was honored for holding the best GPA among Ohio State teams with smaller rosters. Women’s fencing and the pistol team were honored for having the most improved team GPAs from last year to this year.
Several Scholar-Athletes also received individual awards at Monday night’s banquet, headlined by men’s track sprinter Tyler Johnson and women’s soccer defender Izzy Rodriguez, who were selected as Ohio State’s recipients of this year’s Big Ten Medal of Honor.

Other finalists for the Big Ten Medal of Honor were Matthew Comes (fencing), Samuel Gens (pistol), Robby Oswald (track) and Griffan Smith (baseball) on the men’s side and Aziza Ayoub (track and field), Hannah Gruensfelder (volleyball), Laila Huric (synchronized swimming) and Emily Nothnagle (pistol) on the women’s side.
Other athletes who were awarded postgraduate scholarships were as follows:

- John Dana Cone Award: Paetyn Levis (women’s hockey)
- Pierce Phoenix Award: Laila Huric (synchronized swimming)
- M/I Homes Foundation Award: Emily Nothnagle (pistol), Amanda Palutsis (women’s swimming)
- Varsity O Scholarship Award: Duncan MacKenzie (cheerleading), Emily Nothnagle (pistol)
- Corwin A. Fergus Award: Andrew Brower (men’s gymnastics), Clair DeGeorge (women’s hockey), Laila Huric (synchronized swimming), Duncan MacKenzie (cheerleading)
- Woody and Anne Hayes Award: Shanvanth Arnipalli (men’s fencing), Andrew Brower (men’s gymnastics), Hannah Gruensfelder (women’s volleyball), Gabby Rosenthal (women’s hockey), Becca Mauer (women’s volleyball)
- Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarships: Andrew Brower (men’s gymnastics), Amanda Palutsis (women’s swimming)
