Surprise, surprise, Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, sharing this week's award with Maryland's Melo Trimble. This is Russell's seventh freshman of the week honor this season.
In a pair of Buckeye victories this week, Russell averaged 19.5 points, five rebounds and four assists per game. His 28-point performance Sunday against Purdue helped guide Ohio State to a come-from-behind win in which it trailed the Boilermakers by 12 points at halftime. Russell scored 17 second-half points in that win.
So far this year, Russell is averaging 19.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 42 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Ohio State will next be in action Wednesday when it travels to Penn State before closing out the regular-season Sunday at home against No. 6 Wisconsin.
