NEW YORK - The Chris Holtmann era at Ohio State is inching closer.
The Big Ten descended upon New York City and Madison Square Garden to kick off the 2017-18 basketball season with Big Ten Media Day, including Holtmann.
Ohio State will have a different look about it this year, as Holtmann brought in an entire new coaching staff to go with a new look roster that features seven first-year Buckeyes, including three true freshmen.
Below is everything you need to know from Holtmann's podium interview at Big Ten Media Day:
- Holtmann joked he had to change leagues to win games in a tournament at Madison Square Garden.
- When discussing the Big Ten, Holtmann said, "there are no easy nights." Praised the level of coaches in the conference.
- Holtmann said he has no worries about New York City holding both Big East and Big Ten tournaments. Holtmann spent three years coaching in the Big East at Butler from 2014-17.
- Holtmann said he is embracing the expectations that comes with the Ohio State job. "We are defining what we are going to be on a day-to-day basis. I am excited to be at a place that wants to be really good."
- Holtmann said Jae'Sean Tate will play more on the perimeter this season and is continuing to learn the point guard spot. Holtmann added Michigan transfer Andrew Dakich will also factor into Ohio State's plans at point guard this season.
