Will Sunderland earned an invite to The Opening this weekend after being named MVP of the Dallas NFTC camp. Today, Ohio State extended an offer to the big time safety prospect from Oklahoma City. The Opening has been good to Ohio State recently, and the Buckeyes hope that trend will continue this year with guys like Will Sunderland.
The word Sunderland repeatedly used to describe what the offer meant to him when we spoke was "blessed," and he was very excited to earn this offer.
Sunderland has great size and speed for a safety at 6-foot-3 and running a 4.50 forty. It shouldn't come as any surprise that he's been garnering a lot of national attention, which should only increase after picking up a coveted invitation to The Opening. Needless to say, he was pretty excited to get the invitation.
"It's like a wish come true. When I was little I saw the big time players on ESPN and I just remember [telling] myself that I'm going to be on there one day! Now I'm going to The Opening, just blessed," he said.
He currently holds offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Tulsa in addition to Ohio State. Alabama, Notre Dame, Missouri, Florida State, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Kansas State and others, are showing interest as well.
Thus far he has visited Oklahoma, but look for him to make some more visits throughout the spring and summer.
He brings everything to the table that you would want in a safety, recording nearly 100 tackles and five interceptions last season to lead his high school team to a 10-3 season. There is definitely mutual interest between Sunderland and Ohio State, stay tuned for more throughout his recruitment.
