One of Ohio State's top remaining 2023 targets is set to announce his commitment next week.
Caleb Downs, a five-star safety and the No. 12 overall player in his class, will decide his college landing spot next Wednesday. Downs is the top prospect at his position and the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia, per the 247Sports composite.

Downs referenced Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Florida and Oklahoma, among others, in the caption to his video post announcing the date of his commitment on Thursday. Downs has been crystal-balled to the Crimson Tide by 247Sports' Steve Wiltfong, but the Buckeyes are still expected to be among the favorites to land Downs' services.
The 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back has retweeted multiple posts in the past couple days indicating Ohio State is still in the mix to receive a commitment from him despite rumors that Alabama is the frontrunner in his recruitment.
The Buckeyes already have two safety commits in the 2023 class with four-star prospects Malik Hartford and Cedrick Hawkins, but Downs would be the highest-rated recruit of the bunch by a wide margin.
The only other five-star recruit committed to the Buckeyes' 2023 class at present is Florida wideout Brandon Inniss, and Ohio State's top-ranked defensive back commit is four-star Florida cornerback Dijon Johnson. Johnson ranks No. 95 overall in the class, per the 247Sports composite.
