Ohio State coaches and class of 2024 recruits alike kept their phones close all day Thursday.

Sept. 1 is a massive day on the recruiting calendar for prospects in their junior year of high school and the Buckeyes were certainly active Thursday in reaching out to their coveted targets.

Thursday is the first day college coaches are allowed to directly reach out to high school prospects in the recruiting class of 2024 via text message, calls and email. Some prospects had their phones flooded right at midnight, and others have consistently received text messages throughout the day.

Eleven Warriors reached out to various recruits about whether or not they’ve been contacted by the Buckeyes, and collected notes regarding more than a dozen 2024 prospects Ohio State reached out to Thursday.

  • Five-star safety Peyton Woodyard told Eleven Warriors Ryan Day was one of the first coaches to contact him at midnight and said he can't wait to host him and his family for their visit this weekend. He said he and Day talk weekly already, but it meant a lot to him that day was one of the first to talk to him at midnight. He also added he's been talking with Perry Eliano all week.
  • Four-star defensive end KingJoseph Edwards said Larry Johnson reached out to him and that the pair have been close since last season. Since Edwards is visiting this weekend, he said he looked forward to seeing him soon.
  • Five-star defensive end Eddrick Houston said Larry Johnson, Nick Murphy and Miguel Patrick have all reached out. All three told him they're excited to communicate more frequently since they can reach out directly now and build a stronger relationship. Houston will also be at the game Saturday and said he's “looking to see what they have to offer.”
  • Five-star safety KJ Bolden is also one of OSU’s premier targets the Buckeyes have reached out to. Since he’s visiting for the Notre Dame game, most of the conversation was centered around his visit.
  • Four-star cornerback Miles Lockhart said he was touched that both Ryan Day and Tim Walton reached out Thursday considering they had just FaceTimed with him on Sunday. Brent Zdebski also reached out to Lockhart on Thursday.
  • Four-star offensive lineman Eddy Pierre-Louis confirmed that Justin Frye and Mike Sollenne both reached out to him Thursday. Both told him they’re glad they now get to communicate with him directly and look forward to building a stronger relationship. Pierre-Louis also said he hopes to attend an OSU game later this fall.
  • Four-star offensive lineman Ian Moore said Ryan Day, Justin Frye, Mike Sollenne and Cass Simmons have all reached out, so it’s clear Moore is one of their highest priority offensive linemen in the 2024 class so far. The coaching staff conveyed to him how excited they are to have him on campus for the Notre Dame game this weekend.
  • Four-star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa said Matt Guerrieri and Koy McFarland reached out. He had been in contact with Guerrieri before Thursday but said Guerrieri was excited to be able to contact Kyngstonn directly now to continue to build their relationship.
  • Four-star defensive end Ernest Willor Jr. said Ryan Day reached out to him directly and told him he's excited to start recruiting him.
  • Four-star offensive tackle Kam Pringle said Justin Frye reached out to him and preached that Ohio State is really excited about the future.
  • Four-star linebacker Kristopher Jones was also contacted by Guerrieri and McFarland. He said both told him they had been waiting a long time for Sept. 1 and can't wait to start building a better relationship with him.
  • Four-star defensive lineman Brian Robinson, who has not been offered by OSU yet, said Larry Johnson reached out to him to tell him he's been impressed by what he's seen lately and that he's looking forward to talking to him at the Notre Dame game. Consider Robinson officially on offer watch this weekend.
  • Ohio offensive lineman Jake Wheelock, who has not been offered by OSU yet, said Justin Frye talked to him Wednesday about what he's been seeing on the field and asked him some questions about the team. Ed Terwilliger followed up by wishing him good luck at his high school game tomorrow.

Other prospects currently without an OSU offer that the Buckeyes reached out to Thursday include four-star Tennessee defensive back/wide receiver Boo Carter, four-star California safety Marquis Gallegos, three-star Ohio safety Koy Beasley, three-star Ohio linebacker Jasen Kelly and South Carolina linebacker Jaidyn Penix.
