With a trip to cold and snowy Minnesota approaching, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer met with reporters Wednesday evening after practice. Here’s the most important stuff from what he had to say:
- Meyer said sophomore H-back Dontre Wilson had surgery on his broken foot. He added Wilson — who suffered the injury against Michigan State Saturday — could be out until the team’s bowl game.
- Meyer was asked if he was thrilled that Ohio State’s No. 8 in the College Football Playoff rankings: “Thrilled? Thrilled to have another shot, man.”
- Meyer said junior nickel Armani Reeves is at practice, but “not full go. But he’s back moving around a little bit.”
- Meyer said reserve running back Bri’onte Dunn is “close” to being healthy and his status is a game-time decision. He also added reserve linebacker and special teamer Craig Fada is dealing with an ankle sprain, but should be able to go.
- Meyer on playing in sub-30 degree temperatures in Minneapolis: “We’ve played a couple cold games already, it’s no issue.”
- Meyer on No. 25 Minnesota: “They’re rugged guys who play really hard. All phases of special teams you see its either us or them as one-two in the conference. Really good team.” Meyer said the Golden Gophers should be ranked “much higher than that. They’re very good.”
- Meyer on Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill, who he calls a friend: “He’s won at every level, he’s done it right. It’s not a bunch of nonsense sometimes you deal. He’s a very humble guy. I can’t remember when we first met, but we’ve known each other a long time and we talk football. A lot of respect for him.”
