There were too many Buckeyes in Chicago for it not to be an historical night one way or another.
With Ohio State looking to break a school record of five first-round selections in a single draft, the Buckeyes achieved another mark on Thursday night: Three top-10 picks in a single draft.
Joey Bosa (No. 3 to the San Diego Chargers), Ezekiel Elliott (No. 4 to the Dallas Cowboys) and Eli Apple (No. 10 to the New York Giants) were the first three Buckeyes off the board.
For context to how wild this achievement is, here are some recent years where Ohio State came close to achieving it:
YEAR | PICKS |
---|---|
1959 | DON CLARK (#7), DAN JAMES (#8)) |
1974 | JOHN HICKS (#3), RICK MIDDLETON (#13), RANDY GRADISHAR (#14) |
1996 | TERRY GLENN (#7), RICKY DUDLEY (#9), EDDIE GEORGE (#14) |
1997 | ORLANDO PACE (#1), SHAWN SPRINGS (#3) |
2006 | A.J. HAWK (#5), DONTE WHITNER (#8) |
For a historical comparison, Penn State achieved the mark in 1995.
