Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett tallied seven touchdowns in his team's 77-10 dismantling of Bowling Green, throwing six to four different receivers and also running one him from nine yards out.

As a result, the Big Ten named the redshirt junior its Offensive Player of the Week.

Barrett and the Buckeyes host Tulsa Saturday at 3:30 p.m. He met with reporters on Monday in the team room to answer questions.

Notes:

  • Barrett thought Michael Jordan "did well" after being nervous about being a true freshman starting on Saturday.
  • There were times Ohio State's wide receivers "had missed assignments" on Saturday. A lot of it had to do with timing and just missing chances to score even more points.
  • Barrett called Dontre Wilson "my guy" being that both are from Texas. Barrett lumps Wilson into the same group of dynamic players with Curtis Samuel: "I think he's at a good place right now."
  • Barrett said Wilson's whole family came to the game on Saturday: "That was good for him."
  • Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery recruited Barrett while he was Baylor's offensive coordinator.
  • Barrett talked to Kirk Herbstreit after Ohio State's win on Saturday via text message: "That was pretty cool," he said, smiling.
  • Barrett feels like he improved on reading defenses in the offseason. His first touchdown pass to K.J. Hill was a result of that: "I changed the protection, saw the route and then executed it."
  • Asked about the backup quarterback battle between Joe Burrow and Dwayne Haskins, Barrett said, "I didn't know there was a quarterback competition."
  • Barrett called Burrow "a funny guy" and the latter's eyes bugged out in his head when told he was going in the game Saturday: "That was funny."
  • Barrett said both Burrow and Haskins just need more reps in order to get better.
  • Barrett said Urban Meyer didn't talk to him after he threw his interception. However, he talked to himself: "Well, darn, J. I didn't say darn, though. Trying to keep it PG in here."
  • Overall, Barrett felt good about the way he played on Saturday but "wishes he had a few throws back."
  • "I think us quarterbacks, we're all kind of weird dudes." Barrett singled out Joe Burrow's terrific T-shirt collection: "That's the thing. He doesn't laugh. But I'm laughing at him."
  • Barrett liked Baylor's offense during the recruiting process but did not see that program winning a national championship: "That's why I came here."
  • Asked about Tom Herman and Houston's win against Oklahoma, Barrett said he wouldn't bet against his former quarterbacks coach: "As far as them being a Playoff contender, I don't know. That's really not my job. I'm just going out there and trying to win football games."
  • Barrett constantly thinks about what he can do make things easier on Ohio State's offense, primarily trying to avoid missing chances deep when the better option is a check down for positive yardage.
