INDIANAPOLIS — One of the biggest knocks against Raekwon McMillan was his ability in coverage. He may have put some of those doubters to rest with an impressive 4.61-second 40-yard dash on his first attempt.
The time was the fourth-fastest of all linebackers at the time, behind only Jabrill Peppers (4.47), Duke Riley (4.59) and Blair Brown (4.59).
He proved his speed again with a 4.69 in his second run.
McMillan said on Saturday he hoped to make some money during his workout in Indianapolis. Mission accomplished.
NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah explained the importance of McMillan's speed to his draft stock:
"I was just talking to a defensive coordinator during one of our breaks and he was talking about not wanting to have to line shift every time they have a different personnel group come onto the field. He wants to be able to have the same group on there, the same personnel and be able to move guys around and match up. And we start talking about McMillan, because you want to see him run today; you want to see him move around today and see if he can be somebody who can hold up when you get in those passing situations which as we know, the NFL is turning into more and more. So that first 40 time, that 4.61 – man, he helped himself."
It looks like it'll be another year, another draft dominated by Buckeyes.
