Oh, what might have been.
Had the skies not opened to deliver a deluge of precipitation onto the citizens of central Ohio, the visitors from the Land of Lincoln may have been subject to even more punishment during their visit to the Horseshoe last weekend. As it stood, the Fighting Illini were out-gained by a margin of 5-to-1, with the men of the Scarlet and Gray delivering a number of highlights in a dominant, 38-point first half.
But although the second and third-stringers didn't get many chances to leave their mark on an otherwise forgettable game, a third-quarter fumble from backup quarterback Dwayne Haskins led to perhaps the most memorable moment of the afternoon as tight end Marcus Baugh caught a throwback pass from J.T. Barrett after the starters were re-inserted for one final drive.
Was Barrett's final pass in Ohio Stadium the Top Play of the season? Was it even the best moment of the game? Let's check out all the nominees:
1) Parris Campbell catches the defense sleeping with a 41-yard reverse
2) Mike Weber weaves through traffic for a 43-yard touchdown
3) Pete Werner plants the kick returner inside the 10-yard line
4) Marcus Baugh makes his way across the field for an easy throwback score
The Reigning Champ: Sam Hubbard slams the entire Penn State backfield for an 8-yard loss
