Friday was supposed to be the first opportunity for media members who cover Ohio State to have the opportunity to talk to Buckeye football players and watch the team practice, as the Buckeyes are set to begin fall camp tomorrow.
That, however, will no longer be the case.
In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, Ohio State spokesman Jerry Emig said that all football media availabilities have been canceled until further notice, as the university continues its investigation of Urban Meyer, who was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday.
"The university is committed to supporting our student-athletes as they prepare for the upcoming semester," Emig's statement reads. "Due to the ongoing investigation, football coaches and student-athletes will not be available for interviews until further notice and all practices will be closed. We anticipate providing an update on availability Monday."
The first three periods of Ohio State's opening practice of fall camp were scheduled to be open to the media on Friday afternoon, in addition to interviews with select players and assistant coaches after practice. Meyer was also scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday, and Ohio State had planned to send out a full fall camp schedule earlier this week.
All of that, however, is now in flux as Ohio State's football program investigates whether Meyer knew about 2015 allegations made against former wide receivers coach Zach Smith, and determines how it should proceed forward from that investigation.
