Ohio State beat Oregon State so badly that it decided to stop scheduling good teams. Rutgers is undefeated and tied for first in the Big Ten East. Let's cut to the chase and start hating.
10. Rutgers is inherently un-American
Back in the days before the United States of America was a country of its own, Rutgers University was already turning against them.
In colonial times, there was a rule that each colony could only have one college. For New Jersey, this was Princeton University. Just two decades later, however, New Jerseyians wanted another college. By sucking up to the King and Britain, the colony got what they wanted and established Queen's College, now known as Rutgers University.
Rutgers University was established on the namesake of British Royalty and it took until 1825 for the school to realize their mistake and rename the school after Henry Rutgers of New York City. Even since the beginning, New Jersey has relied on New York City for everything.
9. New Jersey is New York City's little brother
New Jersey, the biggest suburb in the world, heavily relies on New York City for its economy and houses thousands of workers that commute back and forth every day. New Jerseyians have removed themselves from the city that never sleeps.
This has resulted in New Jersey housing some of the most densely populated cities in the nation. According to 2010 census data, 7 of the top 10 most densely populated cities in the United States are in New Jersey and rely on the metropolitan area of New York City. Four of those cities are denser than New York City itself, which means that people are living in a more crowded area that is a lot less fun.
8. Rutgers is consistently the worst team in the Big Ten
A program that has only put up a total three total touchdowns in four meetings against the Buckeyes is typically not expected to be one of the best around, but Rutgers has taken it to another level.
Totaling just seven conference wins during their four years in the Big Ten, the Scarlet Knights are consistently at the bottom of the best division in college football. The misery of Rutgers extends beyond football, however, as its basketball program has a total of nine conference wins since 2014.
While the Big Ten is loaded with historic programs and elite rosters, stating that the Big Ten is the best conference in college football is only arguable because teams like Rutgers pull down everyone's strength of schedule.
7. Rutgers beat Ohio State that one time
In a completely unrelated topic, there does exist a time in recent history where Ohio State lost to Rutgers. In the 2017 Big Ten Basketball Tournament, the 11-seeded Buckeyes faced the conference-worst 14-seeded Scarlet Knights. The loss
This moment is one of the few stains on the total record of Ohio State v. Rutgers, but the loss ended the Buckeye's season and marked the end of the legendary tenure of Thad Matta.
6. Kevin Bannon
Kevin Bannon is...odd.
Bannon was Rutgers's head basketball coach from 1997-2001. Like another coach that will be mentioned later, Bannon was fired after his conduct during practice surfaced.
According to reports, Bannon forced his players to compete in free-throw contests where, if they missed, the players would be forced to strip their clothes. Each missed shot required another lost piece of clothing to be removed. After the contest was completed, the players were allegedly coerced into sprints.
Bannon was fired in 2001, partially due to these allegations.
5. Chris Ash
I do not hate Chris Ash, contrary to what the above heading states.
I hate the Rutgers football program for what they have done to Ohio State's former coordinator.
It is not Ash's fault that no recruits want to go to Rutgers. It is a university with a notable lack of a historic football program in a conference that is stacked with some of the best programs in the nation.
It is not Ash's fault that the most notable NFL player from Rutgers is Ray Rice, a man who was kicked out of the league for domestic abuse.
The deck has been against Ash his entire tenure, and unfortunately, it may never be reshuffled.
4. It is impossible to turn left in the entire state
The jughandle intersection. Everyone's worst nightmare.
The "turn right to turn left" method of traffic remains one of the worst ideas in the history of driving. The decision to make all drivers turning, no matter the direction, to turn right and then make another decision wastes time for a state scrambling to support its big brother.
I mean, can someone please explain to me what is going on here?
People often defend the jughandle by saying it prevents accidents, which is fantastic, but it is impossible to see how. These intersections are asking for all sorts of trouble.
3. Mike Rice Jr.
The videos are impossible to forget.
In Dec. 2012, videos surfaced showing Mike Rice Jr. violently throwing basketballs and verbal assaults at his players during practice. The videos were from his first and second years on the job, and Mike Rice Jr. was fired at the end of his third season in 2013.
For the Rutgers basketball program, it certainly was not worth it. Mike Rice Jr. treated his players with blatant disrespect and the program has failed to live up to expectations ever since.
2. Jersey Shore
Everyone's favorite reality TV series.
Jersey Shore ran from Dec. 2009 to Dec. 2012 on MTV and has somehow made a 2018 revival. With characters, and I mean characters, such as Snooki and DJ Pauly D, the reality show with literally no plot somehow became one of the biggest hits on television.
Jersey Shore's main attraction to audiences was constant partying, and the cast did so at a pace that even Ohio State students can respect.
1. They can't pump their own gas...again
Really? Again?
I can not believe that through the first two weeks of Ohio State's season, they will have played two of the only opponents in the nation that legally have to sit in their car as a professional gas pumper fill their tanks.
Actually, I guess when you consider New Jerseyians lack the ability to turn left in a timely manner, it is really not that surprising that they have to tip the gas attendant.
