Another day, another NFL record for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas.
With 12 catches – two going for touchdowns – in his team's 21-18 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday, and a Saints record 16 receptions in the opener against Tampa Bay, the Buckeye great set an NFL record for the most catches through the first two games of the season with 28.
Andre Rison held the previous NFL mark of 26 catches through the first two games of a season while playing for the Atlanta Falcons in 1994.
If you're wondering, the NFL record for receptions in a season is 143, set by Marvin Harrison in 2002, while playing for the Indianapolis Colts. Thomas is 20% of the way to that mark with 88% of his season remaining. To break it, he'll need to average 8.28 catches per game throughout the rest of the regular season.
Just two games into his third NFL season, Thomas is accumulating records in bunches. Just nine months ago, he set a league record for receptions in a player's first two seasons with a staggering 196 snags – topping the previous mark of 194 set by Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry from 2014 to 2015.
Thomas has 269 receiving yards and three touchdowns to start this season. For his career, he has 224 receptions for 2,651 yards and 17 touchdowns in just 33 games.
