Dobbins does it again.
As a true freshman in 2017, J.K. Dobbins led the Buckeyes' running game with 1,403 yards and seven touchdowns. He's now followed that up with yet another 1,000 yard season; the first to ever do so in his first two seasons. Dobbins dashed to the milestone in the first half of Saturday night's Big Ten Championship game against Northwestern.
PLAYER | YEAR | YARDS | TDs |
---|---|---|---|
Braxton Miller | 2012 | 1,271 | 13 |
Braxton Miller | 2013 | 1,068 | 12 |
Carlos Hyde | 2013 | 1,521 | 15 |
Ezekiel Elliott | 2014 | 1,878 | 18 |
Ezekiel Elliott | 2015 | 1,821 | 23 |
Mike Weber | 2016 | 1,096 | 9 |
J.K. Dobbins | 2017 | 1,403 | 7 |
J.K. Dobbins | 2018 | 1,000+ | 9+ |
Since Urban Meyer's arrival prior to the 2012 season, Ohio State has had a 1,000-yard rusher in every single season dating back to Braxton Miller in 2012. Miller and Hyde both reached 1,000 in 2013, Ezekiel Elliott in 2014 and 2015, Mike Weber in 2016, and now Dobbins has been shouldering the load.
When he headed to Columbus, one of the criticisms of Meyer's coaching career had been the lack of 1,000-yard backs in his systems. While this likely stemmed from the utilization of H-backs and running quarterbacks which spreads the ball around a bit more, it's hardly been a problem during his time in Columbus.
The Buckeyes lead Northwestern 14-7 in the second quarter. Dobbins and Terry McLaurin have both found the end zone in Indy.
J.K. Dobbins is the first Ohio State player to rush for 1,000 yards as a freshman AND as a sophomore. He has 1,000 yards this season after a school freshman-record 1,403 yards in 2017.
