Every week, Eleven Warriors dives into the mentions of Ohio State's coaches and players to bring you the #HotTakes and ramblings of Buckeye Nation. This week, we're looking back at Ohio State's dominant victory over Nebraska.
Poor Nebraska fought so hard for that walloping.
Outside of Ohio State, no program pushed back against the Big Ten's decision to postpone the fall football season more than Nebraska, and they got what they pleaded for in unsurprising fashion — a 52-17 demolition that was competitive in the first half and anything but after the break.
The Buckeyes' offense moved the ball effectively through the air and piled up 491 total yards, while the defense forced two turnovers — highlighted by a fumble that was returned 55 yards by Sevyn Banks for a touchdown.
The Cornhuskers looked like they were ready for a fight in the first half, even knotting the game up at 14 midway through the second quarter. But Ohio State scored 38 of the game's final 41 points and cruised to the easy win.
The Buckeyes were all over the field Saturday afternoon, and the fans mimicked them on Twitter. Let's get to the mentions.
@ Ryan Day
Here's Ryan Day (@ryandaytime) getting his guys amped up for today's game with the Huskers! #OhioState #Buckeyes @SpectrumNews1OH pic.twitter.com/0Dk77RFBY1
— Tino Bovenzi (@TinoBovenzi) October 24, 2020
I find it kind of amazing you can hear Day's clapping over the simulated fan noise.
Where did u get your #coat today?
— Tammy Burris Graeme (@TammyGraeme) October 24, 2020
These kinds of tweets always crack me up because I'm 100 percent certain Tammy expects a response from Day.
Urban is vomiting right now. Get your shit together spaz @ryandaytime
— Peyton (@p_smith09) October 24, 2020
Urban Meyer's last team beat a worse Nebraska squad by five points at home just a week after losing to an eventual seven-loss Purdue team by 29 points. So maybe let's settle down, Peyton.
Can somebody please get @ryandaytime a branded mask maybe one with THE printed across it. The plain surgical type doesnt show well on national TV. #Buckeyes @ClaireOnSports
— Jay (@jleegill) October 24, 2020
Did not expect to encounter mask fashion standards in the mentions, but it is 2020.
This is by fr the worst Ive seen their defense in years. Its outright disappointing
— Ty McCauley (@t_mccauley35) October 24, 2020
Years. The plural instance of the word, "year." Ty and Nolan straight-up forget 2018 ever happened. We could all be so lucky.
No wonder U of Texas football is so awful. @ryandaytime of @OhioStateFB done stole all the good players out of Texas. #GoBucks
— Kacie4238 (@kacie4238) October 24, 2020
Ah yes, this forever, please.
A standup coach would have kneeled the ball at the end instead of racking up the score @ryandaytime. Make sure to shake the refs hands and thank them after the game.
— Michael Kersten (@murica_mike) October 24, 2020
The hurricane of tweets that came when Ohio State scored with under 30 seconds to go was both predictable and hilarious. I, for one, like my coach to be evil, particularly when he spent the better part of the afternoon watching his opponent headhunt his players.
@ryandaytime game is over 45-17. Take a friggin knee. You are pathetic. What comes around goes around.
— Jeff Pfeifer (@jjpfeif) October 24, 2020
Jeff here was so mad here that he completely botched the common what goes around comes around phrase. Justin Timberlake wrote an entire song about this to help you out man. Be better.
@ Justin Fields
The best player in the country plays today @justnfields
— Nicky (@Colvin22) October 24, 2020
That he did, Nicky.

— Shaffer (@RyShaffer5) October 24, 2020
-@Jaguars fans everywhere
Okay, Jaguars fans have an unhealthy hope they're going to get Justin Fields in the draft next spring. The universe cannot allow this to happen.
@justnfields went completely plant based in the off season??
— Eric Drewyour (@drewyour15) October 24, 2020
I know we've all been doing our best to social distance and avoid big gatherings, but you don't need to live under a rock Eric.
I just shushed the cat because he was chirping at the birds while @justnfields was talking with @KirkHerbstreit on @CollegeGameDay.

I saw this graphic a few times and I... just need answers. Clearly the designer here has photoshop skills, but... is Fields buried in this field?

I gasped at this.
Im a simp for @justnfields
— Crosbee (@crosbeelisser) October 24, 2020
In a moment of quarantined weakness, I downloaded TikTok this spring, so I know what "simp" means. And I also empathize here.

Imagine taking the time to crop this image into four different sections just to do a tweet.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Eleven of Ohio State's true freshmen saw the field Saturday afternoon, but no one turned more heads than Jaxon Smith-Njigba. It only took one play.

I love that this person's response to the touchdown catch was, "I'm going to tweet a picture of myself posing next to a statue.

That's all for this week. Come back again after the Penn State funeral.
