Former Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore was arrested Thursday night in Cleveland for suspicion of possessing a stolen handgun.
Lattimore was arrested by Cleveland Police around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and was booked into the Cuyahoga County Jail. The news was first reported by cleveland.com's Adam Ferrise.
Per Cleveland Municipal Court records, Lattimore was charged Friday afternoon with receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony. Lattimore's bond was set at $5,000, and he waived the right to a preliminary hearing, meaning the case will now be sent to a grand jury.
According to ESPN's Mike Triplett, “Lattimore was a passenger in a vehicle that police stopped for multiple traffic violations at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. During the course of the stop, Lattimore was found to have a loaded handgun in his possession. He was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon (failure to notify) and for receiving stolen property after the gun was later found to be entered as stolen out of the city of Euclid, Ohio.”
Three other men were arrested along with Lattimore – one on suspicion of improperly handling a gun in a car and two on suspicion of having weapons under disability, meaning they illegally possessed a gun with a felony record.
“Mr. Lattimore, a proud Cleveland native with no prior criminal record or history, is fully cooperating with law enforcement’s investigation of this matter,” Lattimore's attorney Marcus Sidoti said in a statement. “He was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police and was arrested without incident and was not formally charged. We believe that this was a misunderstanding, and that this will become even clearer as new information becomes available and is shared with the authorities.”
Lattimore, who grew up in Cleveland and played for Glenville High School, is entering his fifth season with the New Orleans Saints after playing at Ohio State from 2014-16.
