Among the 90 players who are now on the watch list for this year's Maxwell Award, only one of them is a true freshman.
That freshman is Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson, who was named Wednesday as one of 10 midseason additions to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which honors college football’s best player.

Henderson and the other midseason additions join a list of 80 preseason nominees for the Maxwell Award that already included two Ohio State players, wide receivers Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. The watch list does include three players classified as redshirt freshmen: Marshall quarterback Grant Wells, Southern Miss running back Frank Gore Jr. and Syracuse running back Sean Tucker.
In just five games, Henderson has emerged as one of college football's best running backs by rushing for 503 yards and seven touchdowns on just 53 carries. He has the second-highest rushing average (9.49 yards per carry) among all Football Bowl Subdivision players with at least 50 rushing attempts this year.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on Nov. 1.
