C.J. Stroud has been honored as a national player of the week following his spectacular performance in Ohio State’s win over Michigan State.
After completing 32 of 35 passing attempts for 432 yards and six touchdowns in just over a half of play in the Buckeyes’ 56-7 win over the Spartans, Stroud was named Sunday as the national offensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Stroud, who tied an Ohio State school record with his six touchdown passes and broke an Ohio State record by completing 17 consecutive passes between the first and second quarters, becomes the first Ohio State player to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since Chase Young was the national defensive player of the week after recording nine tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks against Penn State in 2019.
In addition to earning player of the week honors, Stroud’s performance against Michigan State also made him the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, as he’s now favored to win the award with odds of -200 or better at several sportsbooks.
This week’s Walter Camp national defensive player of the week also has Ohio State ties as Alabama linebacker Henry To’o To’o, who was also pursued by the Buckeyes in the transfer portal this offseason, won the award for the second time this season after recording 13 tackles with three tackles for loss and two sacks in the Crimson Tide’s win over Alabama.
