The rich get richer.

Ohio State landing elite receivers is nothing new, and with the addition of Caleb Burton, Brian Hartline and the Buckeyes have done it again.

Burton, the No. 9 wide receiver and No. 68 overall player in the 2022 class, is a dominant game-breaker at the receiver position who has all the tools to thrive at both college level and in the NFL – and he's known from the start that Ohio State is the best school to get him to that next level.

The Burton File

  • Class: 2022
  • Size: 6-foot/165 lbs.
  • Pos: WR
  • School: Lake Travis (Austin, Texas)
  • Composite Rating: ★★★★
  • Composite Rank: #68 (#9 WR)

“We dug into what Ohio State has to offer and how well they produce wide receivers after college,” Burton told Eleven Warriors of his conversation with Hartline back in March of 2020, shortly after being offered by the Buckeyes. “He just said there’s no better place, and the offense they run is perfect for the wide receiver core. All the people he has coached and sent to the leagues just shows he knows what to do.”

When Burton initially committed to Ohio State in November of last year, he was a five-star prospect rated as the No. 2 receiver in the class and No. 15 overall player in the country. But that lofty rating took a dip when Burton suffered a season-ending knee injury in the first game of his junior season.

Burton was sidelined for a year, but when he recovered, he proved he was every bit the player he was before suffering the knee injury, posting 845 yards and 15 touchdowns on 49 receptions for Lake Travis – the same high school as Garrett Wilson.

Though Burton is as well-rounded as they come, his top attributes are undoubtedly his breakaway speed and that catch-and-run ability – neither of which was noticeably hampered by his injury.

Burton now comes to Columbus as a complete receiver looking to blossom into an elite playmaker – and he knows Ohio State is the program that will get him there.
