Another Buckeye is headed to Texas.

Ryan Watts announced Wednesday night that he is transferring to the Longhorns, becoming the second Ohio State player in a 10-day span to announce he will play for Texas.

Watts follows the lead of Quinn Ewers, who announced on Dec. 12 that he would transfer to Texas.

Like Ewers, Watts is returning to his home state. Watts is a product of Little Elm High School – the same high school attended by Terrance Brooks, a four-star cornerback in the 2022 recruiting class who signed with Texas during last week’s early signing period after flipping from Ohio State.

Watts entered the transfer portal on Dec. 10, leaving Ohio State after two seasons as a Buckeye in which he recorded 10 total tackles and one interception. Most of Watts’ playing time came in reserve duty, though he did start Ohio State’s season opener this year at Minnesota when Cameron Brown and Sevyn Banks were both sidelined by injuries.

While Watts likely would have remained a backup in 2022 had he stayed at Ohio State, with Denzel Burke and Brown returning to start at cornerback, he’s surely hoping a transfer to Texas will allow him to play a bigger role for the Longhorns next season.
