The man responsible for snapping the ball back to Ohio State’s kicker and punter is now an “official” member of the team.
After already making two starts for the Buckeyes this season at long snapper, John Ferlmann shed his black stripe on Wednesday.

Ferlmann transferred from Arizona State to Columbus in December, taking over the position from Mason Arnold, who handled Ohio State's long snaps in the back half of 2022 following an injury to Bradley Robinson. Ferlmann brought a year of starting experience with him from Arizona State and holds three years of remaining eligibility including the 2023 season.
In addition to Ferlmann, Ohio State walk-on defensive back Brenten "Inky" Jones also shed his black stripe. Ferlmann and Jones are the 26th and 27th to shed their black stripes in 2023 and the first Buckeyes to add scarlet to their helmets since Aug. 23, when freshman offensive lineman Austin Siereveld had his removed.
