Ryan Day is optimistic the three Ohio State starters who missed last week’s game against Penn State will be able to return this week against Wisconsin.
Asked Tuesday about the health of running back TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and cornerback Denzel Burke, Day said Ohio State is looking for all three of them to have a “really good week of practice” this week and that he is optimistic all three of them will be able to play against the Badgers on Saturday.
Day acknowledged that he expressed similar optimism last week – “I know I said that last week, and we didn‘t quite get there” – but expressed confidence that all three players are on a trajectory toward returning for the road trip to Madison.
“We're expecting great weeks of practice out of those guys,” Day said Tuesday. “Expecting to have them ready on Saturday.”
Henderson has been sidelined for all of Ohio State’s last three games with an undisclosed ailment. He was healthy enough to warm up before all three games but was ultimately held out of action in all three.
Egbuka has missed Ohio State’s last two games against Purdue and Penn State after suffering an ankle injury against Maryland. Like Henderson, Egbuka went through warmups prior to the Penn State game but was held out after being listed as questionable on the pregame injury report.
Burke had to be helped back to the locker room after suffering his injury in the Purdue game and was designated as out prior to warmups for the Penn State game, but Day said Saturday that Burke was “close” to being able to play against the Nittany Lions.
