As the world awaits the 2023 season's initial release of the College Football Playoff rankings on Halloween, Ohio State saw no change to its position in the AP or Coaches Poll — nor did the rest of the top 5 in each set of standings.
The combination of a gritty road win over the top team in the Big Ten West entering Week 9 and a bye week for Michigan proved not to be enough for voters to place the Buckeyes in front of the Wolverines. However, it remains to be seen how the CFP committee will compare the strength of schedules between the teams.
Oklahoma fell to 10th overall in the AP and out of the top 10 in the Coaches Poll after falling to Kansas, but the largest drop in each set of rankings belonged to North Carolina after the Tar Heels lost to a .500 Georgia Tech team. UNC fell out of the AP Poll entirely and plummeted eight spots in the Coaches Poll, now clinging to 25th overall.
