Marvin Harrison Jr. is officially headed to the NFL.
The Ohio State wide receiver officially announced Thursday that he will enter the 2024 NFL draft, ending his Buckeye career after three seasons.
Harrison’s official NFL draft declaration was always expected after Harrison opted out of the Cotton Bowl to preserve his health. He is widely projected to be a top-five overall pick and the first non-quarterback selected in the 2024 NFL draft.
In just three years at Ohio State, Harrison established himself as one of if not the best wide receiver in school history. He’s the only player in Ohio State history to top 1,000 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons, the program leader in career 100-yard games (15) and the first wide receiver in school history to earn unanimous All-American honors, becoming just the fifth player in Ohio State history to earn unanimous All-American honors twice.
Harrison became just the second Ohio State receiver ever to win the Biletnikoff Award, the third wide receiver ever to win the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year award and the first Ohio State wide receiver to be a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Harrison finishes his Ohio State career ranking sixth in school history in total receptions (155) and receiving yards (2,613) and third in school history in touchdown catches (31).
Ohio State will now have two new starting wide receivers next season after Julian Fleming transferred to Penn State. Emeka Egbuka announced Thursday that he will be back to lead Ohio State’s 2024 receiving corps, while second-year receivers Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss and freshman Jeremiah Smith, the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, are leading candidates to start alongside Egbuka.
Harrison becomes just the second member of Ohio State’s 2021 class to enter the 2024 NFL draft, joining defensive tackle Mike Hall. Many other members of that class have announced they will return for their senior seasons including Egbuka, left guard Donovan Jackson, defensive end Jack Sawyer, defensive tackle Tyleik Williams and cornerbacks Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock.
Two other prominent members of that class, running back TreVeyon Henderson and defensive end JT Tuimoloau, have yet to announce their decisions. The deadline for players to declare for the 2024 NFL draft is Monday.
