Another Ohio State defensive back is transferring to Boston College.
Former Ohio State safety Cameron Martinez is transferring to BC, where he’ll reunite with Jeff Hafley, the coach who originally recruited him to be a Buckeye.

Hafley led Martinez’s recruitment as Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator in 2019 but left that December to become the head coach at Boston College. As a result, Martinez delayed his signing until February before ultimately choosing to stick with his Buckeye commitment.
Now, after four years at Ohio State, Martinez will get the chance to play for Hafley after all, as he becomes the second Buckeye defensive back to transfer to Boston College this month, joining Ryan Turner.
Martinez, like Turner, primarily played the nickel position at Ohio State. He started two games at that spot in 2021 but was a backup for each of the past two seasons, playing only 28 defensive snaps in four game appearances for the Buckeyes this year.
That said, Martinez brings the versatility to play multiple roles to Boston College as he has experience playing both safety and cornerback and has said he is open to playing on both sides of the ball at his next stop, having initially been recruited by some schools as a wide receiver.
Martinez becomes the 10th Buckeye to find a new home via the transfer portal this month along with Turner, quarterback Kyle McCord (Syracuse), running backs Evan Pryor (Cincinnati) and Chip Trayanum (Kentucky), centers Victor Cutler Jr. (Louisville) and Jakob James (Toledo), defensive end Omari Abor (SMU), linebacker Reid Carrico (West Virginia) and safety Kye Stokes (Cincinnati).
Four former Buckeyes who entered the portal earlier this month remain in the portal: wide receiver Julian Fleming, tight end Joe Royer, cornerback Jyaire Brown and kicker Parker Lewis.
