Former Ohio State linebacker Pete Werner earned a big payday on Thursday.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Werner and the New Orleans Saints have agreed on a three-year contract extension worth more than $25 million with $17.5 million guaranteed.
With the extension in place, Werner will remain with the Saints through at least the 2027 season.
Drafted by the Saints in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Werner has been a steady presence defensively in New Orleans and is coming off his best season as a pro in 2023.
Last year, Werner recorded 93 tackles (63 solo), with four tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, a pass deflection and an interception in 16 games (all starts). In his three year career, he's racked up 235 tackles, four pass deflections, two forced fumbles and 11 tackles for loss.
