Thursday brought one of the most informative press conferences of the year thus far for Ohio State.

Ryan Day named Will Howard the Buckeyes' starting quarterback, which felt like a matter of not if but when given how he performed in preseason practices open to the media and what coaches had said about his improvement in camp. Now, the reins of the offense are fully his.

Thursday brought updates on other position battles and concerns as well. Tegra Tshabola seems to be emerging as the frontrunner to start at right guard while tackle depth remains a concern. Safety depth was the top issue Knowles addressed on defense, where freshman Jaylen McClain is emerging as a top backup alongside Malik Hartford to starters Caleb Downs and Lathan Ransom.

There were some special teams updates as well. Though there was no clarity at punter, the Buckeyes are weighing several options at both kickoff and punt return, per Day. Emeka Egbuka can handle both punt and kick return duties while Carnell Tate and TreVeyon Henderson were also named as kick returner options and Brandon Inniss and Jeremiah Smith are options on punt return.

Eleven Warriors' Dan Hope and Andy Anders discuss all of those takeaways from Thursday’s press conference with Ohio State's head coach and coordinators on the newest episode of Press Coverage, which you can watch in the video player at the top of the page.
