Josh Proctor will trade in his pads for a whistle this fall.

On Tuesday, Proctor's alma mater, Owasso High School, announced that the former Ohio State safety has accepted a position as a defensive assistant for the school's football team. Proctor returns to hometown after six years at Ohio State (2018-23) and one summer with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2024).

The No. 71 overall prospect in the 2018 class, Proctor was a running back, wide receiver and defensive back for Owasso High School, collecting 517 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns on offense while recording 40 tackles and five interceptions on defense. Proctor also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

In six seasons at Ohio State, including one year with a medical redshirt and one year with a COVID-19 redshirt, Proctor made 51 appearances and collected 112 tackles, seven tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions and 14 pass breakups. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety saved his best performances for last, recording 47 tackles, four tackles for loss, one interception and eight pass breakups in 2023 and earning third-team All-Big Ten honors.

Despite the improvement he showed in his final collegiate season, Proctor went unselected at the 2024 NFL draft but inked a UDFA contract with the Jaguars soon after the draft ended. Following several months in Jacksonville, the Jaguars waived Proctor on Aug. 27 during the league's final round of roster cuts.
