Hero Kanu is in Ohio State's starting lineup for the first time in his career.

The redshirt sophomore defensive tackle took the field at 3-technique defensive tackle in place of an injured Tyleik Williams for the Buckeyes' first defensive series against Marshall on Saturday.

Kanu is a third-year player from the village of Geltendorf, Germany. He saw sparing use in 2023, picking up 10 tackles and a sack in just 90 snaps. He's played the fourth-most snaps of any defensive tackle and the second-most of those who are primarily 3-techs, with 16 snaps in the Buckeyes' first two games. He'll be looking for his first tackle of the season against the Thundering Herd.

Jason Moore and Tywone Malone should be next in line at 3-tech, with Caden Curry possibly mixing in for pass rush specialty packages. Will Smith Jr. will be another option off the bench and there's also a chance Ty Hamilton or Kayden McDonald could slide over from nose guard.
