Ohio State linebacker Cody Simon is up for a prestigious award.

Simon is one of 52 college football players included on the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of The Year Award watch list, which was released Thursday.

The award is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player’s leadership, both on and off the field. Simon, along with the other 51 athletes, were nominated by their schools for demonstrating a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field. It's no surprise Simon was OSU's representative considering he was chosen to don the Block O, Ohio State's ceremonial No. 0 jersey, along with being named a captain in August.

Twenty semifinalists for the award will be announced on Oct. 22 with three finalists chosen on Dec. 16. The winner will be revealed on Feb. 12. Virginia running back Mike Hollins won the award last season.

In two games this season, Simon has recorded seven tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass deflection and one sack.
