Ohio State’s travel roster for Saturday’s game against Northwestern features seven different players from the Buckeyes’ last road trip to Penn State, including five position players who are on the travel roster for the first time this season.
Defensive end Joshua Mickens, defensive tackle Will Smith Jr., linebacker Garrett Stover, cornerback Bryce West and safety Leroy Roker III are all on the travel roster for the first time this year after they did not make the trip for Ohio State’s first three road games of the season at Michigan State, Oregon and Penn State.
They replace Mitchell Melton, Jason Moore, Aaron Scott Jr., Calvin Simpson-Hunt and Keenan Nelson Jr. in the group of 74 players who made the trip to Chicago. Melton, Scott and Simpson-Hunt were all unavailable for the trip due to injuries.
Ohio State also made two changes to its contingent of backup specialists from the Penn State game. Nick McLarty, who began the season on the travel roster but was replaced for the last two road games by Anthony Venneri, is back on the travel roster as the backup punter. Collin Johnson, who was OSU’s backup long snapper for the season’s first two road trips but was replaced by Max Lomonico at Penn State, is also back on the travel roster as John Ferlmann’s backup at long snapper.
