Minnesota transfer offensive tackle Phillip Daniels commits to Ohio State.
Ohio State is still deciding who its kicker will be against Tennessee.
After Jayden Fielding missed two field goals against Michigan, Ryan Day declined to commit to Fielding continuing to handle kicking duties in the College Football Playoff. Instead, Day said that Fielding and Austin Snyder are still competing to be the kicker in Saturday’s first-round CFP game against Tennessee.
Day said Ohio State is likely to make a decision on who its kicker will be after Wednesday’s practice, which will be a field-goal kicking day at practice.
Fielding’s struggles in The Game proved costly for Ohio State as his two missed field goals – from 34 and 38 yards out – cost the Buckeyes six crucial points in their 13-10 loss to the Wolverines. That said, Fielding had made eight of nine field goal attempts this season before the Michigan game, including five of six attempts from 40-plus yards.
The only other kicker who’s kicked in a game this season is Snyder, but he has not attempted a field goal in two years at Ohio State. He took over kicking duties in the second half of Ohio State’s third game of the season against Marshall after Fielding sent three straight kickoffs out of bounds, but he has only kicked extra points for the Buckeyes, making all three.
