Ohio State will lose a piece at tight end in 2025.
Patrick Gurd has reportedly entered the transfer portal after five seasons with Ohio State, in which he appeared in 21 games. Gurd joined the Buckeyes as a walk-on ahead of the 2020 season.

Gurd appeared in 13 games for the Buckeyes this season and hauled in one reception, coming against Western Michigan on Sept. 7.
In his time at Ohio State, Gurd was a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
He will have one remaining season of eligibility at his next stop because of the extra year of eligibility all players received in 2020. He took a redshirt in 2021.
Despite Gurd’s departure, in addition to Gee Scott Jr. set to exhaust his eligibility at season’s end, Ohio State’s tight end unit remains deep. Will Kacmarek, Jelani Thurman and Bennett Christian have emerged as reliable pieces at the position and the Buckeyes have already strengthened the unit through the transfer portal in December, adding Purdue’s Max Klare.
