Ohio State holds off Notre Dame, 34-23, to win the program's ninth national championship.
No Ohio State quarterback has ever had a better completion percentage for a full season than Will Howard did this year.
Howard completed 73% of his passes across Ohio State’s 16 games in the 2024 season, breaking the previous record of 71.9% set by C.J. Stroud in 2021.
Howard was efficient throughout his lone season as Ohio State’s starting quarterback, completing more than 80% of his passing attempts in seven different games to break Ohio State’s school record for career games with an 80% completion rate. He completed at least 60% of his passing attempts in all but one game, the lone exception coming in Ohio State’s regular-season finale against Michigan.
Howard bounced back from his struggles against the Wolverines with excellent play in the CFP, completing 17 of 21 passing attempts for 231 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in the Buckeyes’ national championship game win.
Howard finished the season with 4,010 passing yards, becoming just the third quarterback in Ohio State history to top 4,000 yards in a single season along with Stroud and Dwayne Haskins.
The fifth-year senior quarterback, who transferred to Ohio State for his final season of college football after four years at Kansas State, also set a school record for career completion percentage, breaking the previous mark of 70% held by Haskins.
Howard became the second quarterback in Ohio State history to win 14 games in a single season as a starter, joining Craig Krenzel, who went 14-0 in leading the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2002.
