“Scoop-and-Sawyer” will be remembered forever and received more recognition on Saturday.

Sawyer's strip sack that he returned for a score to give OSU a 14-point lead over Texas instantly became a legendary play in Ohio State's storied history. But what it led to made it the type of play that cemented Sawyer's legacy as a Buckeye forever.

Following a month-long, bracket-style voting contest that began Feb. 5 and included 16 plays that Ohio State thought were its best plays of the season, Sawyer's scoop-and-score was named the Play of the Year for the Buckeyes.

The scoop-and-score by Sawyer won the final vote over Jeremiah Smith's national title-clinching catch from Will Howard on 3rd-and-11 late in the win over Notre Dame, the top play on the other side of the bracket in the voting contest.

Sawyer's scoop-and-score easily won all four of its matchups on its way to winning the Play of the Year bracket.

  • Round 1: Sawyer through the heart of Texas (98.5%) over Sonny Styles' PBU vs. Texas (1.5%)
  • Quarterfinals: Sawyer through the heart of Texas (97%) over Jeremiah Smith's one-handed touchdown vs. Michigan State (3%)
  • Semifinals: Sawyer through the heart of Texas (87%) over TreVeyon Henderson's 75-yard touchdown vs. Texas (13%)
  • Finals: Sawyer through the heart of Texas (71.3%) over Jeremiah Smith's 3rd-and-11 catch vs. Notre Dame (28.7%)

This certainly won't be the last accolade Sawyer's scoop-and-score receives.
