In 1989, historian Modris Eksteins wrote a history of World War I called Rites of Spring, provocatively titled the same as Igor Stravinsky's avant-garde 1913 ballet. And with good reason; Eksteins writes that WWI had the same kind of norm-shattering impact on the world as a whole that Stravinsky had on the art world. Assumptions proved false, beliefs were challenged, and basically a whole lot of people got extremely pissy about life no longer fitting into its antique velvet lined lacquer snuff box anymore.
Anyway, I think about that book a lot, especially at the end of spring football. Because this moment is the junction between the past and the future for Ohio State, and while we'd really, really, really like to coast on a national championship like, forever, time is unfortunately linear. Apparently there's a quarterback battle of sorts happening? Matt Patricia is a coordinator? Tim Walton is suddenly our best friend?
There's a-doin's a-transpiring! How we as Ohio State fans deal with those doings and how they transpire is up to us, but this week the Dubcast is here to help. The good news? Saturday is going to be beautiful. Hope we see you at the 'Shoe.
- Chris Henry, Jr. could've waited like, I don't know, literally a single day to shut down his recruitment to make me look smarter.
- Tim Walton remains undefeated on the recruiting trail.
- Honestly I wouldn't hate a starting Ohio State quarterback named "Lincoln," even if George refuses to pronounce his name correctly.
- Ask Us Anything, which you can do by sending us questions to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com, wants to know our shoe situation. Shockingly, although we are dudes of 30 and 40 with a podcast, we are somehow not sneakerheads.
- Good-ish men's basketball news? Oh hell, sure, it's good news.
And that does it for the Dubcast this week, we'll be back next time to break down the Spring Game and freak the hell out about Tavien St. Clair passing for 500 yards.
