It was an up and down opening week for the men’s hockey Bucks. They knocked off No. 10/12 Wisconsin last Friday. On Saturday they mounted a third period rally but came up one goal short of the Badgers.

But while the team went in and out of gear through the series, one Buckeye was firing on all cylinders from the drop of the puck. Leading returning scorer Mason Jobst posted four points in the series, including a highlight reel goal that made SportCenter’s top 10 plays.

That beauty was the first lamp lighter recorded by Buckeye in 2017-18. It was also the foundation for a 3-2 Ohio State win. And since he had not yet adequately showcased his awesomeness, Jobst netted the gamewinner in that contest as well. On Saturday he helped engineer the team’s rally attempt. The son of Speedway, Indiana assisted on two goals in a 24 second span.

Jobst and the Buckeyes return to Columbus for their home opener this week. Ohio State hosts Rensselaer in non-conference action on Friday at 7pm ET and Saturday at 4pm ET.

  • The split with Wisconsin dropped Ohio State out of the national rankings, though the team is still receiving votes in both polls. Notre Dame comes in at No. 4/6. Minnesota falls to No. 7. Wisconsin holds steady at No. 10. Penn State ranks No. 11.
  • Jobst isn't the only puck Buck earning player of the week honors today, so did Emma Maltais and Tatum Skaggs.
