Ohio State blows out Indiana, 38-15. Now, it's time to do the same to That Team Up North.
The No. 7/8 women’s hockey Bucks squared off against Mercyhurst on Saturday. It was the first half of their final series in 2018. It took a little extra time, but Ohio State came out on top.

The Buckeyes pounded the Lakers’ net with 15 shots in the first period, but couldn’t break through the wall set by Kennedy Blair. OSU netminder Andrea Braendli turned aside eight shots in the frame. The teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 going into the second period.

The game continued in scoreless fashion until late in the middle frame. That’s when Rebecca Freiburger, the Bucks' No. 1 shot-blocking forward, flipped the script and and fired home her second goal of the season. OSU worked hard to defend its slim lead but with 3:23 to go in the game Alexa Vasko knotted the score at 1-1.
Last minute scoring was the theme in overtime as well. Emma Maltais had only 39 seconds left on the clock when she buried the game winner. The goal was Maltais’ team-leading twenty-sixth point of the season.
With today’s victory Ohio State improves to 13-6-0 overall and 8-1-0 on home ice. The Bucks and Lakers cross swords again tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 1pm ET. Fans not attending in person can stream the action live with a BTN Plus subscription.
