Wrestling is probably the only true Midwestern art form. Folkstyle wrestling dates back literally hundreds of years, and even though it probably won't get much better than the time Abe Lincoln pinned the leader of a gang who was threatening to secede his teeth from his face (or something), what Tom Ryan has been able to build at Ohio State comes close.
Beau and I were really lucky to be able to spend some time with Coach Ryan this week, whose enthusiasm for both his sport and his wrestlers is both obvious and admirable. And really, while we could've talked for about ten hours about his most famous athlete (who happens to be the best pound-for-pound wrestler on the planet and maybe one of the best athletes period in Ohio State history), Ryan also gave us some great insight into how he prepares his team, his overall attitude toward life and wrestling, and why you absolutely need to get out to a meet sometime.
That's all in addition to us gleefully chortling about the Nebraska blowout, casting a wary eye on Penn State, answering listener questions in Ask Us Anything (which you can do on Twitter or here), and me telling a gross story about food I ate as a kid. If you enjoy all of those things, please don't forget to rate and subscribe on iTunes!
0:00 Beating up Nebraska is probably bittersweet if you still love the idea of Nebraska like we do, but otherwise it's just really funny.
13:40 Well, Penn State and Michigan exist. One is right now much funnier than the other, but ideally both would be worthy of our time.
19:36 Tom Ryan delivers the goods, and gives us some insight into just what makes a guy like Kyle Snyder so damn ridiculously good. Plus, his philosophy on wrestling and life in general, and why you (yes, you) should come out and see these guys put on a show.
36:58 Ask Us Anything! I really recommend the delicious taste of Pepsi and milk together.
And that'll do it for this week! Thanks as always to Safelite Autoglass for sponsoring the Eleven Dubcast, thanks to Travis for our sweet logo, thanks to you for listening and checking out our Dry Goods store, and we'll see you next time!
