The NFL draft is officially coming to Ohio in two years.
Cleveland will serve as the host of the 2021 NFL draft, the NFL announced Wednesday during its spring league meeting in Florida.
"Cleveland has a passionate fan base and the city offers distinctive iconic locations and attractions that will bring the NFL Draft experience to fans in unique and exciting ways," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a news release. "We look forward to collaborating with the Cleveland Browns, the City of Cleveland, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and Destination Cleveland to celebrate the achievements of the next generation of players and create a memorable fan experience."
The 2021 NFL draft will be the first NFL draft to ever be held in the state of Ohio. This year's NFL draft was held in Nashville, Tennessee, the 2020 NFL draft will be held in Las Vegas and the 2023 NFL draft (also announced Wednesday) will be held in Kansas City. The host site for the 2022 NFL draft has not yet been determined.
Ohio State has at least one player attend the NFL draft every year since 2014, and the Northeast Ohio locale should only increase the likelihood that Buckeye prospects will be in attendance to walk across the stage in 2021.
