I forgot one thing I do not enjoy about May: the blossoming of Ohio's grotesque state flower, the orange barrel. I can feel the road rage coursing through my veins just thinking about it.
Today's NSFW Anti-Work Banger is an all-time classic: the entrance of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre during Dre's Up in Smoke Tour (including "The Next Episode"). I would have sold both my kidneys to attend this concert, but alas I was in 8th grade and my connections to the organ black market weren't as robust as they are now.
If you're really committed to not doing any work this morning, the full NSFW concert can be found over here. There will never be another concert like that one. All other concerts, in every genre, will forever reside in the shadow of Dr. Dre's Up in Smoke Tour.
Anyway, here's some things you may have missed yesterday:
- Ohio State men's basketball team is scheduled for a banger at Louisville in this year's Big Ten-ACC Challenge. (Get dumped then, Pitino.)
- Ohio State was one of 55 schools named by the Department of Education as "under investigation" for their handling of sexual assault cases. (Ohio State has some semantic arguments with that, obviously.)
WELL WISHES TO ZACH FARMER. We begin with a somber note, as a member of our Buckeye family (and freshman left handed sphere-chucker) Zach Farmer was stricken with terrible news this week.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Zach Farmer, a freshman student-athlete on the Ohio State baseball team, will miss the remainder of the 2014 season because of health concerns.
Zach was diagnosed this week with acute myeloid leukemia. He had been feeling under the weather for about a week when he went to see Ohio State's team doctor Monday. Zach and his family were made aware of his condition earlier this week and members of the baseball team were informed Tuesday prior to their trip to Louisville. Zach will begin treatments to fight his illness Monday at The James Cancer Hospital here at The Ohio State University.
Diseases... they're the absolute worst. I suppose the silver lining is Ohio State is a monster in the medical field.
Thoughts, prayers, chakrahs... whatever you feel gins up some good vibes... be sure to send them Zach's way.
MARIONAIRE TIM HINTON TALKS CROOTIN. As many here know, I look upon Tim Hinton as a demi-god due to what he was able to accomplish at Marion Harding during his tenure as head football coach. The term "boss hogg outlaw" was coined with Tim Hinton in mind.
Yesterday, 24/7 published an interview with the current Ohio state tight ends coach. The full article is worth checking out (it's free), but here's an excerpt:
It seems spring and summer visits are becoming more important. Do you put a premium on these early visits?
Hinton: There is a huge premium on these visits. If you look at the percentages, if you don’t have that young man on your campus in the spring or summer, the odds of him attending your university is not very good. Again, it all goes back to building those relationships early. The schools that kids can get to the easiest have an advantage. When you recruit nationally it is paramount to get them on campus early. I’d bet 80% of recruiting is done by the end of summer, so you have to get them in early if you want a shot.
If a prospect wants Ohio State to recruit him, does he need to make an early visit? Is it kind of ‘out of sight, out of mind’ if he doesn’t make it to campus by the end of summer?
Hinton: I don’t know if we will ever completely cut ties with a kid that doesn’t visit, but we look at it realistically. The bottom line is, you’ll always take the kid that has been to your campus three times because you feel comfortable with him. The reason he’s been back three times is because you wanted him there. There have been times when I’m on the road and I see a kid, I bring him back to the staff and they might not be all that excited about him, but he shows up on campus and everyone is blown away. Maybe that kid shows up looking bigger than he was on film or he conducts himself really well or he’s great to be around, those are the intangibles that you can only find out about on a visit. I find that happens more and more over the past few years because we start recruiting them so early. There’s a big difference between 16, 17 and 18 year olds as they grow and mature.
Hopefully some summer visits lead to some commitments for the 2015 class.
URBAN MEYER RETURNING TO THE MEDIA. Urban's gotta keep his media skills sharp for his retirement from Ohio State in 2025 after winning nine national titles:
Ohio States Urban Meyer has been added to the list of analysts on NFL Network for the draft.

Any other Browns fans terrified about the Browns bungling this draft? Or is it just me?

AMERICAN FOOTBALL: THE TOUGHER FOOTBALL. I'm all about soccer growing in America, but it's also cool to watch "American football" expand across the globe. I thought this was pretty slick:
