11W ICYMI:
- The NCAA, in another authoritative whiff, banned satellite camps.
- Wild Kerry Coombs is the subject of this week's Photoshop Phriday.
- Jeff Boals will be the next coach of the Stony Brook Seawolves.
THE PERILS OF THE NFL. Some hellacious news to start your weekend off in the gutter: The Baltimore Ravens hosted Joey Bosa for a private workout this week. Even more perturbing, they liked the Big Bear.
From baltimoreravens.com:
“He definitely projects well,” Ravens Director of College Scouting Joe Hortiz said. “I think that he projects to either spot, 4-3 [defensive end] and/or 3-4 outside backer.”
[...]
Defensive ends in a 4-3 system typically play with their hand in the dirt and hardly ever drop back into coverage. The Ravens expect their outside linebackers to set the edge against the run, get after quarterbacks and also drop back in coverage on some occasions. VeteranTerrell Suggs is the prototype for what the Ravens want out of a high-end player at the outside linebacker spot.
Bosa’s experience with all of those job duties is limited, but the Ravens like what they have seen from him on tape and in his pre-draft workouts to project what he’s capable of.
“You guys can actually see him on film dropping off on occasion – the zone drop, far zones and all of that – and he looks certainly capable of doing that,” Hortiz said. “He actually, at the Pro Day workout, did a full D-line drill; did the whole thing in D-line drills and it was a longer workout and they got after it. He took a blow, got some water and then jumped in the middle of the linebacker drills once they got into drops.”
I think the only way being a Browns fan could become more miserable is if other AFC North teams start stockpiling Buckeye talent. Every season feels like a tire iron-beating, but have you ever been whipped with a tire-iron by an old friend? These are the perks offered to Cleveland Browns fans worldwide.
BOALS REPLACEMENTS. Jeff Boals worked under Thad Matta since 2009, but that came to an end Friday when he agreed to become the next head coach of the Stony Brook Seawolves.
Congrats to Stony Brook and @JeffBoals, who I can say with 100% sincerity will forever be one of the coaches I've ever had in my life.

As for possible names to replace him, 247sports.com ran a thorough list. The top three names:
Kevin Kuwik – Kuwik, 39, was OSU’s video coordinator before moving to a fulltime coaching position for Dayton and coachArchie Miller in 2011. Kuwik was previously a fulltime assistant at Ohio U. from 2001-08, taking an 18-month leave of absence to serve with the Indiana National Guard in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is a Notre Dame graduate. He has helped Miller make UD one of the top programs in the Atlantic 10.
Brian Gregory – Gregory was just fired as the head coach at Georgia Tech after a previous stint at Dayton. It’s unclear if he wants to get right back into coaching this next season.
Billy Donlon – Donlon, 39, was the head coach at Wright State for the last six seasons. He was inexplicably fired after a 22-13 season for the Raiders, where they finished second in the Horizon League.
Will be interesting to see if Matta hires a proven veteran or a young up-and-comer. He could also try the middle road and hire a guy like Kerry Coombs.
Jokes aside, Tim will be through with his own list at 8 a.m.
SNYDER, STIEBER SUIT UP FOR GLORY. Kyle Snyder—last seen dismantling NCAA heavyweight favorite Nick Gwiazdowski—is in Iowa City with former and current Ohio State wrestling teammates hunting Olympic glory.
From dispatch.com:
And three weeks ago, Snyder ended the 88-match winning streak of two-time collegiate national champion Nick Gwiazdowski by rallying late to win the NCAA championship at 285 pounds in what many have called the best heavyweight title bout in NCAA wrestling history. Such success, however, can’t match how much desire Snyder has to compete in this summer’s Olympics, and he can earn that a trip to the Rio Games on Sunday at the U.S. Wrestling Olympic Trials at Iowa City, Iowa.
“I want it really bad,” Snyder said. “It’s something I’ve been dreaming about, thinking about for a very long time now. It’s finally here.”
[...]
Snyder’s Olympic hunger is shared by three former Buckeyes — Logan Stieber, Reece Humphrey, and JD Bergman — and OSU sophomore Nathan Tomasello. All will compete in the two-day tournament at sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena on the University of Iowa campus.
Stieber, Snyder, and Tomasello potentially on the same team in Rio? The Olympic committee might as well ship the Gold medal to Columbus on Monday.

HERMAN HIRES AUSTRALIAN ICE CREAM HUSTLER. Here's proof even if you're a 27-year-old Australian ice cream salesman you should never quit on your dreams to kick field goals for an American college.
From chron.com:
The University of Houston has offered a scholarship to Dane Roy, a 27-year-old ice cream salesman from Oakleigh, Australia, according to Nine News Melbourne.
Roy plays for Richmond Central, an amateur Australian rules football team. He first got noticed six months ago when he won a longest kick competition with a 79-yarder at the IFL Grand Final.
Not long after, Roy began to work with Prokick Australia, which helps transition Australian kickers into college prospects.
This is why I discriminate against non-Australian kickers and punters: Even their ice cream hustlers can crank 79-yards.
OHIO STATE FREEZES IN-STATE TUITION (AGAIN). Are you an Ohio resident attending Ohio State next year? Good news: Annual tuition will still be $10,036.80. Are you attending from out of state? Bad news: The price on a brick just went up to $28,228.80.
From nbc4i.com:
For students on the Columbus campus, the resolution freezes the annual instructional cost (including tuition, mandatory and academic program fees) for in-state undergraduates at $10,036.80. Tuition has remained steady since 2012-13.
For out-of-state students, the cost of tuition will increase 3.2 percent in the 2016-17 academic year to $28,228.80. The State of Ohio requires that the university charge a non-resident surcharge. Even with that change, Ohio State will remain among the least expensive schools in the Big Ten.
I just overdrafted my account thinking about that out-of-state tab. Shoutout to the patriots paying the iron tax.
