Sherrone Moore is officially Michigan's head coach.

While Michigan announced Moore as the football team's new head coach in January, reports surfaced last month that Moore had yet to sign a contract for the role. After a few weeks of discussion between Moore and Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel, the 38-year-old is now the official leader of the Wolverines.

"We are excited to announce that the full contract for University of Michigan Football Coach Sherrone Moore has been signed by all parties," Manuel and Michigan president Santa J. Ono stated in a press release. "He is a proven leader and has been a great ambassador during his seven-plus years representing Michigan. Our university and athletic department leadership is behind Coach Moore, his coaching staff and the great student-athletes that compete on the field and in the classroom."

Moore shares in Manuel and Ono's excitement.

"Our University of Michigan administration led by President Santa Ono and Athletic Director Warde Manuel has been tremendous throughout this process, and I am excited to have this full contract completed," Moore stated. "Their support for our team is greatly appreciated and all three of us are aligned in our goals for this football program. We want the attention to be on the players that work so hard to represent this team and university at the highest level. All of my focus is and always will be centered on the mental, physical and spiritual development of the young men that suit up to play for Michigan."

News of Moore's official contract comes four days after Michigan suffered a 31-12 loss to Texas in Ann Arbor. It also comes weeks and months after Moore became a central figure in the NCAA's Notice of Allegations to Michigan for former staffer Connor Stalions' elaborate sign-stealing operation.

According to an NOA draft ESPN obtained on Aug. 4 – a draft Pete Thamel reported remained "mostly unchanged" when the NCAA issued an official NOA on Aug. 25 – Moore could face a suspension and a show-cause penalty for deleting a thread of 52 text messages with Stalions on the same day media reports revealed Stalions as the architect of the Wolverines' advanced-scouting scheme. When asked about the allegations on Aug. 13, Moore said Michigan is “cooperating with the NCAA fully” and that he looks forward to the text messages being released.

NCAA policy gives Michigan 90 days to respond to the Notice of Allegations against the football program, Moore and others, which means the Wolverines have until late November to address the situation. Whenever Michigan responds, the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions will have 30 days to review the response and schedule a hearing.
