Ohio State freshman safety Jayme Thompson broke his ankle during Wednesday's practice and will miss three months, the Toledo Blade reported.
Thompson's father told the Blade he'll have screws inserted into his ankle Thursday.
Thompson, a four-star prospect from Toledo, was expected to be a special teamer during his freshman season.
UPDATE THURSDAY 6:30 P.M.: Thompson's surgery was successful. Ohio State deemed the injury a severe high-ankle sprain.
Thompson had screws inserted in his left ankle to stabilize his lower-leg bones, which were loosened by damage to the connecting ligaments. He will miss three months.
