I can only imagine how hard the former University of Alabama-Birmingham valedictorian, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, shook his head today when, per his morning ritual, he typed Al.com into his Internet Explorer search tab.

From Kevin Scarbinsky:

Some former UAB football players are concerned that the results of a study that's part of a university-wide strategic plan could lead to the elimination of the school's football program.

Former player Justin Craft, a partner and senior vice president of Nowlin and Associates, a Birmingham financial planning firm, has met with UAB President Ray Watts and written a letter to Watts to voice those concerns.

Yes, it appears UAB's football program is on tilt, and it's unsurprising to learn Alabama and Nick Saban have dragon blood greasing their palms.

From Kevin Scarbinsky in September:

Alabama paid Southern Miss $1.4 million to play Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium. UAB and Southern Miss play in the same league in Conference USA.

Alabama paid Florida Atlantic $1 million to lose 41-0 a week ago in Tuscaloosa. UAB and FAU play in the same East Division in Conference USA.

So Alabama does more than fail to take advantage of the opportunity to help UAB financially. Alabama hurts UAB by pumping big money into the budgets of UAB's league rivals.

That's the realest #NIMBY you'll see in college football.
