According to USA Today reporter Nicole Auerbach, "a person with direct knowledge of the situation," told the publication Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany will retire in 2020.
Delany, who helped create BTN, shepherded the Big Ten through three rounds of expansion and negotiated a series of massive TV deals, has been with the conference since 1989, when he joined after a stint as commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference.
Speaking at Big Ten Media days Tuesday afternoon, Delany said he did not envision being the commissioner when the conference's newest TV deal expires.
His current contract with the league expires in June 2018.
