North Carolina transfer defensive end Beau Atkinson committed to Ohio State on Wednesday, and in the latest episode of Press Coverage, we discuss what the addition of Atkinson means for the Buckeyes.
A disruptive, 6-foot-6, 265-pound edge rusher, Atkinson led North Carolina in sacks and entered the transfer portal last week following spring practices under new head coach Bill Belichick. Ranked as one of the top prospects in the transfer portal, Atkinson will have two years of eligibility to use in Columbus, where he will join Kenyatta Jackson Jr., Caden Curry and more in Larry Johnson's defensive line room.
Atkinson made his mark as a rotational player in 2023 before emerging as one of the ACC’s premier pass rushers in 2024 as a redshirt sophomore. A former three-star prospect, Atkinson paced the Tar Heels with 7.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 25 pressures last season, ranking sixth in the ACC in sacks over 13 games.
The Raleigh, North Carolina, native follows Idaho State transfer Logan George (24 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in 2024) as Ohio State's second defensive end transfer and seventh overall portal addition this offseason.
Eleven Warriors' Andy Anders and Chase Brown break down the impact of Atkinson's commitment on a new episode of Press Coverage, which you can watch at the top of the page.
