Sorry for not including link. Saw it on Fox news site. Some hedging as to what "open" means but Emmert says it's pretty simple - if regular students are not allowed on campus then no sports as it would not be safe for student athletes either.

But my take is just like the government rules on gathering sizes. If a gathering of 50 or 100 is ok in public how does that not make it not safe for a soccer team or even a football squad to be safe, especially if there are no other students on campus to make it harder to avoid large gatherings? Even the classrooms would be safer with only the athletes physically present. Why are so many professional sports determining that they think they can do their sports safely but without fans?

Maybe time for conferences to leave the NCAA, especially the FBS ones.
